9 Ways to Satisfy Your Wanderlust without Traveling
I love to travel, but I don’t have time and money.
Have you heard this statement? I sure did, more times than I wish. At first, I tried to convince the other party that there are many different ways to satisfy your wanderlust without breaking the bank. You can be a tourist in your own town, explore the nearest park or city, or go on a day trip to a national park.
Yet the more I reasoned, the more I realized that the problem is not in the lack of resources, but in the inability to think broadly. When it comes to satisfying your wanderlust, you don’t always have to travel to a faraway country. You can cure your travel bug right in your backyard. To be completely honest, even inside your own home. And it’s easier than you think. Follow these simple tips and cure your wanderlust without shelling out tons of money on traveling.
HOW TO DEAL WITH YOUR WANDERLUST WHEN YOU CAN’T TRAVEL
1. Go to Nature
For the time being, forget about exotic beaches, crowded squares, trendy restaurants, and world-famous shopping centers. Instead, let your wanderlust take you to nature where you can unwind and recharge. Take a short walk in the countryside or look for the least crowded trail in your city. Reconnect with nature and find beauty in the place you call home because somebody on the other side of the world would give anything to be right here, right now.
2. Go on a Road Trip
A road trip is another great way to satisfy your wanderlust without spending too much money or needing too much time. Start with a short, a few-hour trip to the nearest state park. On a long summer day, you can even do it after work.
Once you get a hang of this type of travel, stretch your travel itinerary and plan a full-day road trip or a weekend-getaway to neighboring state or country.
3. Satisfy Your Wanderlust through Reading
Grab a good travel book and cure your wanderlust through traveling to a new place or returning to your favorite country through reading. Books have that incredible power to ignite your curiosity, teach you about a new place and culture, and cure your thirst for travel at least for a while. You can even use a children’s book to show your little one the entire world without leaving your own home.
4. Watch Travel Movies and Documentaries
Similar to books, movies and documentaries can take you to all corners of the world and unveil the biggest secrets of ancient civilizations in a matter of a few hours. Use this valuable resource to cure your wanderlust. Yet be careful not to become too complacent and unwilling to see all these world wonders in person some time in the future.
5. Relive Your Adventures by Sharing Them with Others
Even if you can’t travel right now, you can still relive your most memorable adventures by sharing them with your family and friends. To embark on new exciting journeys, ask your parents or grandparents about their adventures. Explore the world from their perspectives. Let them take you back in time and share stories from their golden days.
6. Make a Travel Photo Book
Use this quiet time to ignite your wanderlust by traveling through your old pictures. Make a travel photo book or develop your favorite pictures and arrange them in a photo album by years and continents.
7. Learn a New Language
If money is short to plan a trip, cure your wanderlust by learning a new language. A language that you always wanted to speak, but didn’t have time for learning.
8. Meet People with Different Cultural Background
Instead of aimlessly scrolling through social media, join a community of like-minded people, in person or virtually. Share your interests about the world, cultures, and adventures in nature. Organize a potluck and ask everybody to bring dishes from different cuisines. Or learn a new way of wrapping a gift from your new friend of Japanese origin.
9. Make Dishes from Different Cuisines
Did you set up a goal of taking a cooking class somewhere in the world this year? I certainly did. Alas, it didn’t happen the way I had planned. Never mind, right? Be your own chef and learn how to make that Italian pizza or Nepalese momos. Use YouTube and cooking blogs as your guide to satisfy your wanderlust in your own kitchen.
