Top 5 Places to Visit in Bridgeport

Welcome to Bridgeport! Located in California’s Eastern High Sierra, it’s a small town you’ve probably never heard about. You’re not alone here. If not for our recent California road trip, Bridgeport would have been just another place on the map for us.

Fortunately, its relatively affordable accommodations, compared to other places in the Mammoth Lakes area, drew us here for just one night. The next morning, however, we decided to extend our visit and see what the Bridgeport area itself had to offer.

With that being said, here are the 5 best places you must visit in Bridgeport, California.

5 OF THE BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN BRIDGEPORT, CALIFORNIA

1. Travertine Hot Springs

Hot springs were the main reason why we extended our visit to Bridgeport. The Bridgeport area has two places where you can have a small hot pool all to yourself or share it with other visitors. Travertine Hot Springs was the closest to our hotel. And after just one quick visit, it became one of our favorite places to visit in Bridgeport.

Located south of the town along Route 395, Travertine Hot Springs features a handful of hot pools with the stunning Sierras in the background. Each of these hot springs can fit in a few people at a time. Neither too big, nor too small, these natural pools serve pretty well for families or small groups.

2. Buckeye Creek

Buckeye Creek in the northern corner of the town is one of the best places to visit in Bridgeport for nature lovers. With plenty of room for such activities as hiking, camping, and fly fishing, and you are here for a real adventure.

Good to Know: Hiking trails near Buckeye Creek, however, are considered difficult and may not work well for beginners.

3. Buckeye Hot Springs

If you decide to visit the Buckeye Creek area, be sure to bathe in Buckeye Hot Springs. Two soaking pools are set next to a mountain stream. A small wall of rocks separates them from Buckeye Creek. With the average temperature of water around 100 degrees, the hot springs provide a striking contrast to the much cooler water in the creek.

Direction: Unlike Travertine Hot Springs, Buckeye Hot Springs “dwells” up in the mountains. To get to this must-visit place in Bridgeport, follow Twin Lakes Road to Doc and Al’s Robinson Creek Resort. From here, take dirt forest service road 017 that takes you to a parking area 2.5 miles away. It’s time for you to get out of the car and stretch your legs a little bit. The hot springs area is located about 100 yards below.

4. Twin Lakes

Twin Lakes are some of the most beautiful places to visit in Bridgeport. The two alpine lakes surrounded by towering mountains and evergreen forests lure with their natural beauty.

From the dramatic backdrop to clear water, they offer a great opportunity to relax and get closer to nature. No wonder, Twin Lakes is a popular destination for campers, hikers, mountaineers, and anybody who likes fishing and boating.

5. Bodie State Historic Park

A few centuries ago, the area near Bridgeport experienced a large influx of gold miners. The California Gold Rush from 1877 to 1888 brought over 10,000 people to this remote area, which later became known as the town of Bodie. But as the gold resources started depleting, the residents were eager to leave the region.

Today Bodie is one of the largest unrestored ghost towns in the Bridgeport area and the country. Operating as Bodie State Historic Park, the site features houses, shops, saloons, and a church of the bygone days.
