Where to Find the Best Views of Zurich
You can love or loathe it, but Zurich is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Ending up on our week-long European trip itinerary by virtue of its convenient location, this city won my heart in no time. From pre-medieval architecture to pedestrian bridges across the Limmat River and irresistible charm of the old city, Zurich effortlessly unveils what it’s like to be one of the most popular destinations in Switzerland.
But this fame doesn’t come without a price. This northern city ought to prove its urban beauty with some of the most stunning city views in the county, a task that Zurich doesn’t hesitate to accomplish. Whether greeting you from the top of a hill or encountering you by the riverbank, there is no shortage of the easy to reach places with the panoramic views of Zurich. Are you ready to see them? Let’s find these gems.
THE 6 BEST PLACES WITH THE PANORAMIC VIEWS OF ZURICH
1. Limmatquai
Zurich is a city that asks for a lot of walking. Yet no tiredness is greater than the city views you get when strolling the pre-medieval streets of this Swiss jewel. As our experience showed, Limmatquai is one of the best places to walk and enjoy the panoramic views of Zurich.
The street runs along the Limmat River and rewards you with the postcard vistas. Apart from the riverfront buildings, pointed spires of the churches with their copper green rooftops come into view. Old Town Zurich’s favorites – the Grossmünster and the Fraumünster Church – also don’t hesitate to show their picture-perfect peaks from the sides of the Limmatquai.
Without exaggeration, it’s one of the easiest places to explore Zurich on foot and enjoy its views along the way. You can’t say no to that.
2. Grossmünster
Apart from its signature towers that you can see from many parts of the city, the Grossmünster itself is one of the best places to get the panoramic views of Zurich. For a small fee you can climb the Karlsturm, the tallest tower of the church, for the bird-eye views of the rooftops of Zurich.
3. Mühlesteg
If you come to Zurich by bus or train, the chances are the Mühlesteg footbridge becomes your first stop on the way to the panoramic views of the city. The place is known for the beautiful vistas of the old buildings clustered along the river.
The gothic towers of the famous churches nearby create a striking contrast to such an idyllic background while bridges on both sides of the Mühlesteg add a finishing touch to the stunning picture. Yet despite this opulence, the footbridge is quieter compared to other popular stops in the city. So maybe that’s why it’s my second favorite place to admire the gorgeous views of Zurich.
4. Lindenhof
The first place belongs to the Lindenhof as far as I’m concerned. Located on top of the Lindenhof hill, this public square in the Old Town is your jackpot winning ticket for the panoramic views of Zurich. With the sights of some of the landmarks along with the familiar by now rooftops and the Limmat River below, there is no need to go and look any further.
5. Uetliberg
To get to the next place with the panoramic views of Zurich, you need to leave the city and travel almost five kilometers to the Uetliberg. Known as Zurich’s own little mountain, the Uetliberg showcases the city, Lake Zurich, and even the Alps from the height of 450 meters above the city.
6. Bürkliterrasse
Unlike the other places, the Bürkliterrasse presents somewhat different views of Zurich. The truth is, it doesn’t really show the classic city. Instead, it focuses on natural beauty surrounding Zurich. Yet you hardly find any other places in the city with such panoramic views of Lake Zurich and the snow-capped Alps in the distance.
