A visit to San Francisco in photos
Photo Tour of San Francisco
There are places that can’t be fully depicted in photos. Their beauty and uniqueness along with ever-changing weather and flavorful aromas stun in person and are absolutely undetectable by cameras. San Francisco is one of them.
Nestled on the tip of a peninsula, the City by the Bay is famous for its steep hills, crashing water waves, lush greenery, and some of the most spectacular architecture on the West Coast. Yet capturing all this diversity of San Francisco in photos is not an easy task.
Yearning to grasp the essence of the region, I traveled to Bay City a few times. Each time taking more pictures, visiting new areas, stumbling upon rare hidden gems, and always gazing at the majestic Golden Gate Bridge in awe. Yet I still feel like an intruder, someone who barely scratched the surface of what the city has to offer. A visitor that once in a while revisits San Francisco through her photos and aches for another trip to the city in person.
Would you join me on one of these nostalgic journeys and take a tour through San Francisco via these photos?
SAN FRANCISCO IN PHOTOS
The majority of my first photos from San Francisco hardly went through any editing or were introduced to Lightroom. I’ll leave them in this raw state, at least for a while longer.
First thing first, you can’t travel to San Francisco without seeing its main attractions, the Golden Gate Bridge.
Initially, we were planning to take the Alcatraz Island tour. Yet all tickets were sold out months in advance. So we had no other choice but to substitute it for the Golden Gate cruise tour.
Views from the Boat
From the deck of our boat, we enjoyed San Francisco’s stunning surroundings
… and a lot of the downtown area.
Looking at this, you understand why Hollywood features the city in many of its movies.
On the water, although sunny, the weather was far from ideal. The wind was so strong that it felt like it could throw you overboard.
We extended our seaside San Francisco adventure by exploring the Fisherman’s Wharf.
This was one of the busiest areas even though you could say so early in the morning.

Union Square and Other Landmarks of San Francisco
We don’t do a lot of shopping when we travel. But if we had to do it in San Francisco, Union Square with its numerous stores would have been the best place to go.

Lombard Street is known as the “crookedest street in the world”
The famous Painted Ladies
And of course the signature steep streets of San Francisco
Almost a mandatory photo and ride on an iconic cable car. San Francisco still has the world’s last manually operated cable car system.
